Travelling Around Nicaragua by Len

 Since we have arrived, I have found travelling around Nicaragua very exciting and really different from England.

We had to catch a taxi to the hotel but it was very small and we could only just fit in. Our cases went in the boot and on the roof, four of us squished in the back seat and me and dad sat in the front.


The next day, my godfather came to pick us up in his pick-up truck. In Nicaragua you don't have to wear seatbelts in the back seat. It is more comfortable and you can fit more people in the vehicle. Luckily everyone drives quite slowly. On the journey to their house we stopped off at a fun water park but before we had changed back into our clothes a huge storm started and we had to shelter under a small roof. Once it had passed we headed for a restaurant around an hour away from their house. They live near to the city of Leon, on a nice farm in the countryside.

Last weekend, we went to a beach called Las Penitas. I found this journey fun because we got to sit in the back of a pickup on the way there and back. When we got there we ran into the lagoon but we were surprised to find that we could walk about 250 metres all the way across to another side and the water stayed shallow.


Finally, after A Great stay in Leon, including a football match with friends (my team won 4 - 2 😃), we set off for Esteli. It is the town where we are going to live. We got a large rental car because the small one we had booked was out of stock. Dad had to steer around massive potholes. There were plenty of horses, cows, dogs, and chickens all over the main road.

I can't wait to do lots more travelling around Nicaragua Because there is so much to see and it is REALLY FUN!

On the 19th January, we travelled to Somoto Canyon, where you could jump off rocks (some small, some HUGE), float around in a rubber ring or just walk around and enjoy the scenery. Firstly, we walked a mile or so to our boat with a tour guide - some bits we paddled through shallow ponds. Once out of our boat, we got into some rubber rings. Our tour guide told us to hook our legs onto the rubber ring in front of us so we all stayed together in a chain. Meanwhile, if you were at the front, a different person would be holding on to your ring. We were all pulled up the river by a man who worked at the canyon and swam pulling us all. He had a tiring job!  While we floated about in our rubber rings, we could look up and see the huge rock face covered in orchids and a range of other beautiful flowers. Animals in Nicaragua, by Elena

 After 3 weeks of being in Nicaragua, I have seen loads of interesting animals, some very different to ones at home - England. Our friends' farm near to Leon where there are lots of insects! Our first week was spent on a farm in Leon where the heat was really intense and so are the mosquitoes! Over the week, a few uninvited insects visited our room - mainly scorpions and spiders - once we even found a small tarantula! Scorpions like to hide in dark places, like these sesame seed plants, which are bundled up to dry in heaps before they are harvested.  Cats and dogs like to roam around freely. A lot of dogs look like they don't actually have an owner, yet most have been quite calm and friendly. The cats however like to have a few homes where they can be safe from the cars, dogs, buses and motorbikes.  The cheeky cat finishing someone's snack!
