Somoto Canyon, by Elena

On the 19th January, we travelled to Somoto Canyon, where you could jump off rocks (some small, some HUGE), float around in a rubber ring or just walk around and enjoy the scenery.

Firstly, we walked a mile or so to our boat with a tour guide - some bits we paddled through shallow ponds. Once out of our boat, we got into some rubber rings. Our tour guide told us to hook our legs onto the rubber ring in front of us so we all stayed together in a chain. Meanwhile, if you were at the front, a different person would be holding on to your ring. We were all pulled up the river by a man who worked at the canyon and swam pulling us all. He had a tiring job!

While we floated about in our rubber rings, we could look up and see the huge rock face covered in orchids and a range of other beautiful flowers.

After around half an hour, we got out of the rings and swam to some jumping rocks where the water was over 20 metres deep!

Once we had jumped, played and splashed about for a while, we decided to go back. Some people floated downstream on their rubber rings and some people swam back, including me. On the swim back, we found some more jumping rocks, so we did a few more jumps. Finally, we clambered back into our boat, walked back to the car and left.

It had been a really fun day out and I can't wait to go back again sometime.
